TA Deep Dive 2/10: Understanding and Treating Shame

Psychotherapy trainees and TA Qualified Practitioners.
Workshop Outline
In this workshop we will explore some of what the TA community has written about working with Shame (Erskine, 1994; Cornell, 1994; 2018; Little, 1999). We will go on to consider how we can work and talk with our clients about shame. We will consider other non-TA theories and strategies as well. Throughout this workshop we will be considering practical ways of working with shame.
Aims
The aim of this training is to give an overview of how to engage with the topic of Shame with our clients, and to support the participants with tools for how to be effective in ‘treating’ Shame.
Learning Outcomes
Participants from this course should have a good understanding how Shame can be created, and what Shame looks like. The Participants from this course should feel confident in supporting their clients with chronic, entrenched, and trauma reinforced shame.

Ben is a psychotherapist based in York, previously a social worker for over 10 years, Ben started his private practice ‘Flux Therapy’ in 2019. In addition to offering psychotherapy and training, Ben also offers supervision and consultancy. Ben has a deep passion for working with and helping people in the most effective ways he can.
