Tackling Big Tobacco In My Town (Bristol)

This witty illustrated talk will focus on the media advocacy activities of Bristol’s anti -tobacco campaigns over 35 years. These include sabotaging Big Tobacco’s PR, localising national reports about tobacco’s harm, using calendar dates such as Valentine’s Day and Halloween, producing information and visual resources for the public and attending and picketing shareholder meetings. The session will explore if there are any lessons for other health campaigns from the success of the pioneer tobacco control campaigns at a local level.
