Event description
Sharing best practice on testing for and treating hepatitis C among those working in secure settings in South East England

About this Event

Hepatitis C is far more prevalent in the prison population than in the general population and disproportionately affects marginalised and disadvantaged groups.

This event will offer an opportunity for attendees to learn more about hepatitis C care in prisons, including best practice from others in the prison estate in order to build on NHS England’s recent hepatitis C elimination deal.

This event will seek to:

  • Share best practice on hepatitis C care with and between staff in Sussex, Surrey and Kent
  • Identify solutions to problems in eliminating hepatitis C in the region

The morning will feature talks from national regional leads on their plans for the region as well as good practice case studies, information on peer support and how Operational Delivery Networks and prisons can work effectively together. The afternoon will feature breakout sessions specifically focused on working with substance misuse teams and their role in hepatitis C elimination and how linkage to care in the community can be improved.

Those who should attend include:

• Blood-borne virus leads and other nursing staff

• Prison drug and alcohol teams

• Primary and secondary care professionals working with prison health teams

• Local Public Health England leads

• Commissioners

• Anyone with an interest in hepatitis C and BBVs.

Free lunch, teas and coffees will be provided.

A full agenda will be provided in due course.
