Event description

Description

The aim of this mini conference is to highlight the detrimental effects loneliness has on health and wellbeing.

We will hear from a number of difference experts who will outline a number of different projects that have made a difference in helping to alleviate loneliness and social isolation among older people. Sharing, learning, and good practice!

Following an introduction from Age UK London's CEO Paul Goulden, our morning session will consist of speeches from: The Minister for Loneliness, Ms Tracy Crouch MP (tbc); the Deputy Mayor for Social Integration and Community Engagement, Mr Matthew Ryder; and the Chair of the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE), Rt Hon Professor Paul Burstow.

After lunch, the conference takes an academic turn, as Professor Andrew Steptoe of UCL's Department of Behavioural Science and Health is followed by Professor Jill Manthorpe, Director of KCL's Social Care Workforce Research Unit.

Following a tea break, we will hear from Dr Kellie Payne, Research and Policy Manager at the Campaign to End Loneliness, before we finish by discussing the impact of several successful live projects managed by different London Borough Age UKs.

This is a FREE event, but you must order a ticket in advance to be able to attend.
