Event description

Description

The Tower Hamlets’ Public Health team and their partners invite anyone with a stake or interest in loneliness to join us at this event to ignite conversations on how to tackle it. The event will be split into two parts:

Part 1: Showcasing of locally developed video and findings from the following loneliness projects:

• The ‘Community Perspectives on Loneliness Project’ sought to explore resident’s views. Twenty volunteers were trained in a community research technique to find out over 600 residents’ thoughts and experiences of loneliness.

• The ‘Action on Loneliness in Care Homes Project’ sought to directly address loneliness among care home residents by carefully matching them with a volunteer in the community on the basis of a shared interest or hobby. The intention was to encourage the development of a meaningful relationship that would be of value to both the resident and the volunteer.

Read the full reports on these projects here.

Part 2: Stakeholders will be presented with the suggested actions from the two projects and other evidence base on what works on tackling loneliness mapped against the assets that already exist locally. Stakeholders will then be invited to identify what the gaps are and what we all can do individually and in collaboration with each other to tackle this pressing issue.

Who should attend?
This event is open to individuals, community groups and organisations or anyone who has an interest or capacity to take small or big steps towards tackling loneliness. Although the two projects mentioned above targeted older people, loneliness is a growing issue for people of all ages and therefore this event is open to all local stakeholders.
