Description

Tackling Poverty – Building a Fairer Moray

This is a free conference organised by the Fairer Moray Forum.

A range of speakers working across Scotland will discuss how research evidence can influence local policy and planning, and inform practical actions to bring about social change.

Speakers include:

Chris Littlejohn - Chris is interim Deputy Director of Public Health and Head of Health Improvement with NHS Grampian. He is also an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Aberdeen, where he teaches Public Health to medical undergraduates and to postgraduates studying towards a Masters in Public Health

Lindsay Graham - Lindsay is an independent government policy advisor specialising in food and public health, whose expertise and interest areas include food insecurity, child hunger, children's learning environments, and breakfast and summer meals programmes.

Simon Shaw, Sustain - Simon leads Sustain's work on food poverty at national, regional and local levels. This work focuses on highlighting and encouraging sustainable responses to food poverty, particularly where they address the root causes of food poverty.

David Hilber, A Menu for Change Project - Oxfam Scotland, Child Poverty Action Group Scotland, Nourish Scotland, and The Poverty Alliance are working together on this project, designed to encourage a shift away from emergency food aid and towards preventative and rights-based approaches to food poverty.

Malcolm Gardner, Welfare Reform Club - the Welfare Reform Club promote positive welfare solutions and work with a range of organisations to make sense of, and help deliver, a reformed welfare state.

Professor John McKendrick - Professor McKendrick is based at Glasgow Caledonian University. His primary research interests are poverty, with a particular interest in children, and children’s play. He is keen that his work is of use to practitioners and campaigners who seek to tackle poverty in Scotland.

There will be an opportunity to participate in an audience Q&A session with the panel of experts.

Information stands will be at the event providing an opportunity to find out about local services and support available; networking opportunities will also be available throughout the day.

The day will be chaired by Richard Lochhead, MSP for Moray.
