About this event
Nestled in the ruins of a retired city quarry just off Ecclesall Road, Quarry Yard is set to be transformed into an amphitheatre of Mexican food, drink and festivities, for one day only.
Six years after dusting the competition at Taco Wars 2019 in London, reigning champions @homiesondonkeys travel north to face off against the best of Sheffield, for cash and glory. Armed with a brand-new taco described by Head Homie, Smokey, as “one of the best things we’ve ever created”, the gauntlet has been well and truly thrown down.
The star-studded, 7-taco-strong lineup will feature offers from every tier of the local food landscape, from street food start-ups to more established operators, along with wildcard creations and collaborations from some of your favourite non-Mexican food brands, all to be announced in the coming weeks.
A Taco Wars ticket buys you all seven tacos plus dessert, a cold drink on arrival, one chilli back (tequila shot with pickled chilli juice chaser), a menu booklet with space for tasting notes (that also doubles up as your voting token), ONE shot at Donkey Darts™️ and a chance to cast your vote for Sheffield’s best taco. With bragging rights and a £1,000 cash prize on the line for the winner, it’s all to play for.
Local party people @apricotballroom will be supplying the sound system, featuring live DJs and extended vinyl sets with a Central-American accent. Taco Wars will also feature a Chips & Guac Station for crucial warm-up and inter-taco snacking, and a Deli Mexicano, where taco fans can purchase authentic ingredients for their next big Mexican night in.
Finally, Taco Wars guests will be treated to a sneak peak of our giant new indoor space - lander - scheduled to launch later this year if all goes to plan.
The event will be split into an afternoon session, 12:00-17:00, and an evening session 18:00-23:00, with voting closing at 21:30 and the winner’s announcement at 22:00.
