ABOUT THE CLASS:
Join us on Thursday, 23rd October 2025 from 2-4pm with the local Lairg Tai-Chi group for a taster session!
We are hoping to run the sessions out on the Lairg Primary School Playing Field, with the Lairg Community Centre Main Hall as a backup for adverse weather.
No flexibility or prior experience is needed; workshop leaders, Maddie and Diane, will lead you through the steps of Shibashi Tai-Chi during this slow-paced session.
Ideal for anyone looking to feel more relaxed, grounded, and connected.
Tai Chi: Tai chi is a mind-body practice with roots in Chinese martial arts, but is now primarily known as a gentle, low-impact exercise and form of "meditation in motion". It involves a series of slow, flowing movements, deep breathing, and focused mental concentration to improve physical health, mental calmness, and a sense of inner balance and well-being.
Tai Chi offers numerous physical and mental benefits, including improved balance, strength, and flexibility, reduced stress and anxiety, and better sleep and cardiovascular health. It is particularly effective in preventing falls in older adults, managing chronic pain like arthritis, and boosting immune function. The gentle, rhythmic movements combined with deep breathing promote a sense of calm, focus, and overall improved quality of life for people of all ages and fitness levels.
Breathe, soften, and return to a state of calm.
There will even be a short break where you can grab a refreshment or maybe even indulge in a bit of homemade cake!
This workshop is funded by The National Lottery Awards for All.
ABOUT THE TUTOR
Maddie has worked with qualified Taoist Tai-Chi instructors since 2004 and has the knowledge of experience behind her. She will guide you through the initial grounding moves all the way through to winding down into the 'five elements'.
The local Lairg Tai-Chi Group meets most Thursdays from 2-4pm at the Lairg Community Centre; should you enjoy this session, they are happy to welcome new members!

This workshop is offered under the project title 'Mountains to Coast: A Wellness Journey', funded by The National Lottery Awards for All.
