Event description
Taking Action! – Conference on Social Justice in Language Classrooms and Teacher Education

About this event

It is a pleasure for us to invite you to Taking Action! – Conference on Social Justice in Language Classrooms and Teacher Education. The conference is organized collaboratively by the MA students in the Applied Linguistics and ELT seminar on "Social Justice in Language Education" and course coordinator Albert Biel, M.A., at TU Dortmund University. Taking Action! will take place on campus and virtually on 18th and 19th February 2022 as a hybrid event. There are no registration fees as this is a free event.

Issues of social (in)justice such as migration, racism, gender and sexuality, as well as power dynamics between languages and language varieties along with the associated patterns of discrimination play a huge role in today’s society and are also present in the language classroom. To bring some change to the current situation, one of the main goals of the conference is to discuss ways in which we can equip language teachers with the ability to recognize instances of social injustice and introduce more equity and social justice into their classrooms and beyond.
