About this Event

Presenters: Dr Shirley Cooper, LDC Development Team with PGR presenters

This workshop is one of the Taking Ownership of your PhD workshops for University of Liverpool PhD researchers in the first few months of their PhD. For more information, please see our introduction to the Taking Ownership of your PhD development theme.

Academic supervision is an essential component of the PhD, so it is important to develop an effective working relationship with your supervisors.

However, if this relationship is new to you, you may not be sure what is expected, how the supervision meetings work, and what you can do to achieve a healthy supervisory relationship. This online workshop will help you gain a greater understanding of your role and how you can develop the relationship.

Within this session we will use a mixture of presentation, group exercises and discussion to cover the topics:

· The University's expectations and regulations around supervision

· What is your role and what is expected of you in this process. What is your supervisors role, and what might you reasonably expect from them in the process?

· Making the most of your supervision meetings

· Practical advice on developing an effective working relationship with your supervisor.
