Taking the opportunity to reclaim the teaching of English through amazing literature: Great English Teaching, Great English Learning!

reading1

Bishop Road has a story based curriculum that is the result of a focus on quality children’s literature and its impact on the enjoyment of reading and the ability to communicate. They have been consistent champions of research based solutions to improving children’s outcomes and teacher CPD and have had some of the highest results at KS1 and KS2 in the city for a number of years. Bishop Road are a 4 form entry school that celebrates the enrichment and wonder that good stories foster.

We welcome those to the programme who are positively seeking new approaches and practical ideas to give children a wonderful experience in English.

Some elements of the themes will overlap and build on one another but each day is coherent on its own. Each day can be purchased separately, or together as a package, with a reduction in cost for booking all three days together.

Day 1 - 9th October 2017

Grammar exercises alone are unlikely to develop the understanding and concepts needed to either read at a deep level or write with meaning. Take opportunity to reclaim the teaching of English through amazing literature.

Inspiration – Knowledge – Ideas – Outcomes - Practical Suggestions

Day 2 - Monday 27th November 2017

The case for books and a lifelong love of reading

Explore books that you can read to children and how they can read to inspire a love of literature.

Improve your classroom, increase your knowledge and gain lots of practical ideas to enhance your teaching of English, which will impact on reading and writing outcomes of the children in your class.

Day 3 - Monday 12th March 2018

Contextualised English Teaching

Teaching English through a novel for the whole class is an exciting and rewarding way to enhance interest and learning for the whole spectrum of learners. Gain knowledge of texts that inspire and give meaning to teaching comprehension. Explore methods that result in learning for children which are experienced in context and therefore remain with them to use in turn in many new ones.

Some elements of the themes will overlap and build on one another but each day is coherent on its own. Each day can be purchased separately, or together as a package, with a reduction in cost for booking all three days together. There is a charge of £125 for each standalone day, or £300 for the full programme, to be invoiced to your school.

FAQs

What are my transport/parking arrangements for getting to and from Bishop Road Primary School?

Free street parking is available outside of the school and in roads in the vicinity. Very regular bus services travel up and down the Gloucester Road - please alight by the prison and walk to the school entrance from there. You are advised to arrive at the school between 9.00 and 9.10 in readiness for a 9.15 start, and to avoid the morning drop-off time rush in the school and around the school entrance at that time.

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?

Please email Sarah or Mike at the teaching school. You can reach us at: bptsa@bristol-schools.uk

What's the refund policy?

A full refund is available if you cancel within 7 days of the course commencing.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

It would be helpful so we can check you in, although it is not essential.
