Talent Fest 2019 Skills Summit: Making Greater Brighton the best place for anyone to have a fulfilling career in the digital sector

How do we ensure that we have a diverse workforce where anyone is able to build a fulfilling career?
How do we build workplaces which are inclusive to all?

Talent Fest 2019: Skills Summit is a dedicated peer-to-peer business conference where executives, managers and founders join inspiring leaders and thinkers for a conversation about how, together, we can attract train and retain talented people from all parts of society.

The day will also see the launch of our Talent Manifesto: a set of beliefs, aspirations and commitments generated out of the discussions at last year’s Skills Summit. The Manifesto is a way that, together, we can help make Greater Brighton the best place in the UK to have a fulfilling career in the digital sector.

Skills Summit line-up:

Diversity and Inclusion: A Strategy For Success
Anne Morrison, BAFTA
Anne Morrison served as Chair of BAFTA from 2014-2016. Prior to that, she worked for the BBC, running Documentaries and Factual Television departments, overseeing the decentralisation of the organisation to Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and launching the BBC Academy, the BBC’s training centre. She was also the Chair of our ground-breaking Brighton Fuse research. Through her keynote address, Anne will explain why companies should care about diversity and inclusion, share key learnings from her extensive work in this area at BAFTA and BBC, and what lessons we could apply to our cluster.

Writing inclusive job adverts to attract diverse applications
Louise Rawlinson, Deputy Production Director and Jodie Murgatroyd, Producer at Cogapp
Although there is a desire from companies to have diverse teams, many struggle to attract applications from under-represented groups. In this talk, Louise Rawlinson from Cogapp will share some of the steps they are taking to address this and how you can too.

From Spain to Sri Lanka: Inclusive flexible working to retain your staff
Caroline Collyer, Head of People and Vic Heyward, Marketing and Employer Brand Manager at Bright
Once we have committed to finding a diverse team and invested in their development, it’s really important to retain them in our organisations. A common reason for staff moving on from a company is the need to be able to work from somewhere other than the office. This is becoming increasingly common as employees have carer needs, require space for mental health reasons, or just need to have a break from the office environment. But is remote working realistic for all businesses? Bright will share their experience of supporting remote working from Spain to Sri Lanka, giving examples of how to set expectations and everyone up for success, challenges faced and overcome, and how a single CCTV camera brought continents together.

Inclusion in Practice: Building inclusion into your workplace DNA
Samantha Whittaker, Co-Founder, Human Change Agency
This practical, creative and thought-provoking workshop will provide a re-think on how your organisation can embed inclusive practices into your day-to-day workings, from how you budget through to how you develop your brand.

Vegetarian/vegan buffet lunch and refreshments from caterers The Secret Restaurant is included in the ticket price.

Tickets to this exclusive day will be limited to just 80 places to ensure that meaningful conversation and contributions are had by all in attendance.
