This conference is intended for University of Bristol staff (Academic and Professional Services).

About this Event

The conference aims to:

  • Share stories and experiences of online teaching in order to: reflect, inspire, learn together, encourage experimentation, harness uncertainty and learn from mistakes
  • Share practice in use of online tools and techniques

How to join

Once you have registered you will receive an auto confirmation email from Eventbrite which will contain a self-enrolment link.

  1. The link will take you to the welcome page of the conference
  2. Click ‘Enrol’ (the green +)which you will see in the left-hand menu .
  3. Login to Blackboard, (top right of page) this will direct you to Single Sign-on
  4. Once enrolled you can find the conference by going to ‘My organisations’ on your Blackboard ‘Home’ page and selecting ‘Bristol Institute for Learning and Teaching’.

Prior Reading

   You will find pre-reading materials for some sessions at the bottom of the Conference -Welcome page in Collaborate. 

Tips for Blackboard Collaborate conference sessions 

Browser: We highly recommend using Chrome or Firefox as your web browser for the best experience

Connection: As we all know from remote working, connection issues do occur. If you have connection issues during the session first wait, Collaborate will try to re-establish your connection. If the issue persists, leave or shut down the session and try re-joining. If the problem persists or if you are unable to join the session don't worry, it will be recorded so you can catch up later.

Housekeeping: We kindly ask you to ensure your microphone and camera are switched off for the duration of the conference (unless you are presenting!). If you would like to contribute a comment or ask a question, please do so via the Chat function.

Recording: All conference sessions and associated Chat is being recorded and will be available on the BILT Video Channel following the conference.

All sessions taking place in Main Conference Room , except for those marked with an asterisk, which are taking place in Parallel Session Room B. Guest links to Blackboard Collaborate rooms will be circulated ahead of the conference day.

  • Introduction to the conference, 9.30am - 9.40am, Sarah Davies (BILT Director).
  • Morning keynote, 'What's the worst that could happen?', 9.40am - 10.40am, Prof. Simon Usherwood (University of Surrey).
  • Break, 10.40am - 11am.
  • Parallel sessions, 'Tales from the Digital Classroom' (12 x 15 minute sessions across two Collaborate rooms), 11am - 12.30pm, various contributors. (NOTE - Sessions taking place in both Main Conference Room and Parallel Session Room B*) view contributors and room details here.
  • Lunch, 12.30pm - 1.30pm**
  • Afternoon keynote, 'It's not about technology; it’s about paradigms', 1.30pm - 2.30pm, Prof. Tansy Jessop (University of Bristol).
  • Break, 2.30pm - 2.40pm.
  • Parallel sessions, 2.40pm - 3.40pm:
  • Workshop: 'Games and playfulness in online teaching', Suzi Wells and Chrysanthi Tseloudi.
  • 'What Do Students Expect from an Online Teacher?', BILT Student Fellows*
  • Closing remarks, 3.40pm - 4pm, Sarah Davies (BILT Director).
