Did you know, we have more written texts from Ancient Egypt than from all of Medieval Europe combined – yet many people today think the Egyptians didn’t have much literature. From epic myths of dragon-plagued sea voyages, to touching tales of magic and mummies, Egyptologist Hugo D. Cook will guide you through the forgotten masterpieces he translated for his new book, Tales of Ancient Egypt. What better way to explore Ancient Egypt than through the stories of wonder that lie hidden behind the hieroglyphs?
Hugo is highly energetic Egyptologist with degrees from Oxford and Cambridge Universities, the largest online following of any UK-based Egyptologist, and a major book recently published by Macmillan. With a strong history in museums and education, he is a lecturer at the British Museum and its partner City Lit, which includes teaching the six ancient languages he knows. In the last year he has published a highly successful children's book of Egyptian stories plus several articles, and guest-edited the popular magazine Honest History. He was recently the lead historical consultant for two galleries in a major new museum in Egypt, and he works on a large-scale museum and heritage project in the UK for The Barakat Trust. He is currently coordinating Egypt’s addition into the GCSE Classics national syllabus, and he teaches art history in schools with Magic Lantern.
