Event description

Description

Charles I amassed one of the most extraordinary art collections of his age, acquiring works by Albrecht Dürer, Hans Holbein, Andrea Mantegna and Titian, and commissioning leading contemporary painters such as Anthony van Dyck and Peter Paul Rubens.

In this lecture, Desmond Shawe-Taylor, Surveyor of the Queen’s Pictures and exhibition co-curator, discusses the Royal Academy of Arts’ exhibition ‘Charles I: King and Collector’, which reunites the great masterpieces of Charles I’s collection, sold off and scattered across Europe following his execution in 1649, demonstrating the radical impact they had on visual culture in England.

Does not include exhibition ticket.
