Description

Thursday 9 February - 11.30am
Speaker: Dr David Boyd Haycock
Where: Ondaatje Theatre

‘Avant-garde – the word that defines all that is exciting, daring and innovative in Modern Art – first entered the English lexicon in around 1910, the year of Roger Fry’s epoch-defining exhibition, ‘Manet and the Post-Impressionists’. In this lecture Dr. Haycock will explore this dramatic moment, and look at some of the young British artists who helped reshape art in this country, among them Augustus John, Spencer Gore, Wyndham Lewis, David Bomberg, Paul Nash and C.R.W. Nevinson,
