Event description

Description

The Sistine Chapel is home to some of the greatest frescoes of the Renaissance and to the most powerful work by Michelangelo, but the artists Botticelli and Ghirlandaio were also involved. This lecture by Richard Stemp will explore the history of the chapel and its decoration in depth, charting not only the coherent patronage of successive Popes, but also the stylistic developments of the Renaissance which ultimately pre-figure the Baroque.

This is the 2nd lecture in a series focusing on frescoes and murals from Ancient Egypt to 20th Century Britain. You might also like to consider these lectures:-
