Event description
A talk to develop an understanding of the history of map making (cartography) & usage, & discover the contribution maps have made.

About this event

This talk is delivered in partnership with the Lincolnshire Wolds Countryside Service - join us online as David Rodger delivers this talk, the first in his series of 3.

This talk will help you to develop an understanding of the history of map making (cartography) and usage, and discover the contribution maps have made to the development of the modern world. We use symbolic representations of our surroundings without thinking these days, to navigate through city streets by car or to walk to a shop in a mall. Simple yes? Not at all! What you may find intriguing is what the map maker left out in order to give you the information that the maps sponsor wanted you to see.

Maps have always been used for uses other than directions; for political influence, economic gain and cultural supremacy. Discover how the two dimensional sketch of the landscape became one of the most important inventions in the history of humankind.

David Rodger has been using maps as part of his career for thirty years. Delve with him into the hidden history of maps.

Date: Thursday 2nd September 2021

Time: 7pm with time for Q&A's afterwards.
