About this Event

To accompany the showing at The Wiener Library of the History of Parliament Trust’s exhibition Josiah Wedgwood and the Defence of Democracy, this event will feature presentations by Dr Paul Mulvey and Lesley Urbach. Their talks will focus on the tireless work Wedgwood carried out to raise awareness in Parliament about the worsening situation for the European Jewry, as well his personal provision of assistance to Jewish refugees from Nazi-controlled Europe from Hitler’s rise to power in the early 1930s to Wedgwood’s death in 1943.

About the speakers:

Dr Paul Mulvey is Wedgwood’s latest biographer and lecturer in International History at the London School of Economics and Politics. His publications include The Political Life of Josiah C. Wedgwood (2010).

Lesley Urbach has researched Wedgwood’s assistance of the Jews in and from Nazi-controlled Europe, 1933-1943. Lesley holds a Master’s in Research in Jewish History and Culture from Southampton University, Parkes Institute.
