All are welcome.

Biography of David McAsey

David speaks from his personal experience as the father of a young woman who has Asperger’s Syndrome – an Autistic Spectrum Disorder.

David and his wife have had to fight for the last 20 years to get the right support for their 25 year old daughter. His experiences have helped him to develop his knowledge of autism.

His experiences also led to him being invited by North Yorkshire County Council to contribute to the North Yorkshire Autism Strategy for 2015-2020.

David is currently assisting Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust as they develop their own Autism Strategy.

Before retiring in 2016, David’s working life had taken him from a career in the NHS as a senior manager to being an account manager and health economist in the pharmaceutical industry.

In retirement David now volunteers as a Gateway Assessor for Hambleton and Richmondshire Citizens Advice Bureau. He also teaches computer skills to complete beginners in his home village of Hutton Rudby.

David is married and has 2 daughters aged 25 and 22.

David is looking forward to sharing his knowledge and understanding of autism so that ‘everyone understands’.
