Talk on Multicultural Education
Wed 29 March 2017, 13:30 – 14:30 BST
Dr Damian Spiteri will give an overview of how cultural and cross-cultural competence can be both understood and expressed differently, and will show how College and Universities can generate an overall culture wherein people will act in ways that both acknowledge and respect ethnic, socio-cultural and linguistic diversity. Using insights from his recently published book 'Multiculturalism, Higher Education, and Intercultural Communication' (Palgrave Macmillan, 2017), Dr Spiteri will show both how students and staff at universities can form meaningful sustained, systematic interactions across cultural and racial divides and how consequently they can thereby co-identify and co-create opportunities to both address and celebrate diversity effectively.
Dr Spiteri comes from a teaching and a social work background. He has researched different aspects of the life-course transitions of young people, including minor asylum seekers and young people in care.
