Rupert Muldoon
The hand of the artist and the hand of the gardener.
Rupert is an interesting mix of artist, designer and gardener each passion informing the other. Studying at the Bartlett School of Architecture and Slade School of Fine Art, intrigued by the methods and materials of artists, he developed his own unique method of painting in the almost forgotten medium of egg tempera. Rupert completed his MA in Landscape Architecture at ETH Zurich.
After working for renowned Swiss landscape architect Gunter Vogt, Rupert returned to England and to the studio of Dan Pearson. Taking the plunge five years ago Rupert set up his own practice together with University friend Arjen Meeuwsen.
Meeuwsen Muldoon Landscape Architects have a passion for the natural landscape, this is the root of their practice. Rupert and Arjen have lead projects that search out the local narrative of the place. Delivering a strong concept at the start, creates unique and site-specific projects. Having worked on a number of public commissions they recognise the importance of relinking the spaces back to the users which ultimately keeps the environment alive and active.
The landscape studio is committed to responding to the climate crisis by finding new ways to implement green strategy. Delivering the maximum possible green value from each project through designing with natural processes. Creating self-sustaining gardens that are dynamic and not static, improving the soils and the recycling of on-site water. Landscape is a meeting ground for many different professions, the small and agile office are able to build a specialist team around each project, often working closely with ecologist and farmers.
Rupert will talk about creating the Maggies Centre garden in Oldham, the design for the town hall garden, The Hof van Leiden, currently being built, new plans for a productive garden fit for the C21st within an old walled garden in Lincolnshire, and his own garden in Hampshire on the South Downs, where he also has his painting studio.
