About this event

Talk Safe is a valuable suicide awareness session that explores the nature of suicide, equipping delegates with a deeper understanding of the range of suicide risk factors that can exist.

This talk explores:

-Gaining deeper understanding of who is at a higher risk of suicide, why they may be at risk, and what can prevent them from reaching out for help.

-The barriers that can prevent people from reaching out for help and what can get in the way of others reaching in and asking about suicide.

-How language can creates an unhelpful bias that and will guide delegates through the language to use (and not use) when discussing suicide whilst you learn about the range of risk factors that can increase the potential for suicidal ideation and behaviours.

This suicide awareness talk is a stand-alone awareness session but also provides a very useful background to those wanting to learn how to use a safe-plan.

**Please note that this session is suitable for delegates aged 17 and over.

This talk is open to all, welcoming delegates with no previous suicide prevention training and also to those looking for a refresher who may have previously completed Spot the Signs, 10 Tools, safeTALK and ASIST .

This is an open training, and The OLLIE Foundation can provide fully funded places to all university students, parents, carers, and those facing socio-economic disadvantage. Please select the fully funded ticket. However if you'd like to make a donation, there is an option to do so upon checkout. Please feel free to contribute at your own comfort level.

Other courses like this:

We encourage delegates to follow up this talk by booking on to our Plan Safe guided workshop which is a further element of our suicide prevention training. The two workshops can be attended in any order.

Plan Safe is a 90 minute workshop guided practice, which explores what a 'safe plan' is and how to create one with someone you are concerned about. Safe Plans can help people prepare how they will stay safe from overwhelming thoughts, tonight, over the weekend, across the holidays etc.

OLLIE’S Plan Safe workshop shares a range of strategies and modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Theory of Constraints (TOC) and how they can enhance an effective safe-plan with someone who is in an emotional crisis.

Please note that Talk Safe, Plan Safe is also available as a full 2.5 hour training session. Our next open TSPS session dates can be found on our website. Each session includes time for a Q&A.

General Session Information:

This training will take place online via Zoom

**Please be aware, we require a minimum number of delegates for each of our online sessions in order to run these effectively, if we are unable to obtain the minimum number 24 hours prior, you may be informed of the courses postponement and will be given the option to transfer onto the next available course.
