TALK | The Elizabethan Image, by Roy Strong CANCELLED
Event Information
Description
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS EVENT IS CANCELLED.
Fifty years after his Tate exhibition, ‘The Elizabethan Image’, Sir Roy Strong, historian, writer, broadcaster and former director of both the National Portrait Gallery and the V&A, returns with fresh eyes to the Virgin Queen, the court and the first Elizabethan age.
Britain’s leading authority on Elizabethan portraiture, his latest book, The Elizabethan Image. An Introduction to English Portraiture, 1558-1603, has just been published by Yale University Press. In this related talk, Strong considers not only portraits of the queen and her courtiers but also of the aspiring middle class. This perceptive examination of one of the most fascinating periods of British art reveals many parallels with our own age and we look forward to hearing more from him.
A wine reception and book-signing follow the talk.
