Part of the Berlin-London: The Lost Photographs of Gerty Simon Event Series

This lecture will challenge the notion that the Treaty of Versailles settlement and reparations led directly to the collapse of the Weimar Republic, while also explaining why the divided memory of the war nonetheless ultimately played into the hands of Hitler and the Nazis.

About the speaker:

Matthew Stibbe is a Professor of Modern European History at Sheffield Hallam University and a specialist on twentieth-century Germany. His many books include Women in the Third Reich (Arnold, 2003) and Germany 1914-1933: Politics, Society and Culture (Pearson, 2010).
