Event description

Description

This lecture by art historian Eveline Eaton puts the serene and mysterious paintings of Johannes Vermeer (1632-75), with their luminous colours, gradations of light, and unpretentious subjects, into the context of their time, 17th-century Holland.

This is one of a series of six talks which explore Dutch and Flemish art, from Jan van Eyck to Johannes Vermeer; you may also like to consider:

Jan van Eyck, by Geoffrey Nuttall

Hans Memling and Rogier van der Weyden, by Paula Nuttall

Hieronymus Bosch, by Leslie Primo

Rembrandt’s Light, by Jennifer Scott

Bruegel and Sons: Exploring a Painting Dynasty, by Amy Orrock
