Description

Talk by Ian Leech about the death of his daughter and his bereavement experience.

Ian is the Community Engagement Manager from St Giles Hospice. Following the death of his daughter Melissa, to Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in May 2008, Ian has used his experience to help others. Ian speaks to health professionals across the country on improving the quality of end of life care and bereavement support. Ian continues to campaign for a change in the benefit law that affects students who suspend their studies to recover from long illness. He is a People in Partnership Member of the National Council for Palliative Care, a Dying Matters Champion and a Marie Curie Expert Voice.

This talk is part of the accompnaying programme for the current museum Dying Matters Community Display. As part of the national ‘Dying Matters’ initiative, this exhibition explores the human experience of death across cultures and throughout the ages. Through thematic displays and associated events we aim to encourage conversations about dying and empower people to make choices about their own deaths.
