Talk Tribute Talks for William Radice with Tagore Performance Sujit Bhattac
Overview
A memorial celebration to pay tribute to Dr William Radice, celebrated poet, and translator of Rabindranath Tagore’s writing from Bengali into English.
The focus is on shared memories of the following three invited speakers who knew him well.
(i) Dr. Bashabi Fraser, CBE: An award-winning poet, writer and academic. She is the Founder Director of Tagore Studies at Edinburgh Napier University. Her recent book “Critical Lives Rabindranath Tagore” is an insightful reappraisal of Tagore’s life and work."
(ii) Dr John Stevens: A historian and expert on British Imperial history. He has given several talks on Tagore's life and work at several universities. He is a postdoctoral fellow in the Dept. of Languages and Cultures of South Asia in SOAS.
(iii) Param Vir: An eminent British composer in contemporary classical music. His composition and orchestral works "Snatched by the Gods", "Wheeling Past the Stars”, "Shine Before My Eyes” based on Tagore poems and translations by William Radice have received high praise in concert and music halls.
Special Guests: Mrs. Elizabeth Radice, widow of William Radice and their two daughters Kathy & Helen
