Description

Facing Reality, Claiming Leadership, Restoring Sanity in a Turbulent World
An evening of exploration with Meg Wheatley.

In this evening talk, internationally renowned writer, teacher and systems thinker Margaret Wheatley summons us to be leaders for this time of great turbulence, to reclaim leadership as a noble profession that creates possibility and humaneness in the midst of increasing fear and turmoil. She summons us to reclaim leadership by creating Islands of Sanity, to commit ourselves to engaging with compassion and insight amidst the increasing disruptions challenging our world.

“This world does not need more entrepreneurs or technology breakthroughs. We need leaders across all sectors of society who put service over self-interest, who aspire to be steadfast and trustworthy through crises and failures, who commit to staying present for the people and causes they care about.

We need leaders who recognize what harm is being done to people and planet through practices that dominate, ignore, abuse, and suppress the human spirit.

We need leaders brave enough to create Islands of Sanity in the midst of a turbulent and destructive sea. Sane leadership is the unshakeable faith in people’s capacity to be generous, creative and kind. It is the commitment to create the conditions for these capacities to blossom, protected from the external environment. It is the deep knowing that, even in the most dire circumstances, more becomes possible as people engage together with compassion and discernment, self-determining their way forward.”

Meg Wheatley writes, teaches and speaks about how we can use our power and influence and willingly step forward to serve this troubling time. For more than 40 years, Meg Wheatley has worked globally in many different roles, as a speaker, teacher, consultant, advisor, formal leader. From these deep and varied experiences, she has developed an unshakable conviction that leaders must learn how to evoke people's inherent generosity, creativity, and need for community. As this world tears us apart, sane leadership on behalf of the human spirit is the only way forward. She is author of nine books, from the classic Leadership and the New Science in 1992 to her newest book (June 2017) Who Do We Choose To Be? Facing Reality, Claiming Leadership, Restoring Sanity. She continues to be honored for her ground-breaking work by many professional associations, universities and organizations. www.margaretwheatley.com.
