Talking About Change and Loss: Normalising Grief in Primary RSHE
Overview
Grief is a universal experience, yet it can be one of the hardest topics to approach in the classroom. This practical and compassionate webinar is designed for teachers, RSHE coordinators, school leaders, support staff, and education professionals working in primary and special school settings. It will equip participants with the understanding, confidence, and resources to support children and young people through experiences of loss and bereavement as part of the new RSHE curriculum.
Join our panel as we explore:
- Key definitions of loss, grief, and bereavement and the different types of loss children may experience
- Children’s understanding of death at different developmental stages
- Integrating grief education within the RSHE curriculum: embracing grief as part of social and emotional learning
- Cultural sensitivity and inclusive practice, including strategies for supporting pupils with SEND and neurodiverse needs
- Educator wellbeing and confidence when facilitating conversations about loss
- Practical SEL resources to support emotional resilience and healthy coping
Speakers:
- Hannah Baker, Co-CEO at Partnership for Children
- Dr Poppy Gibson, Emma Palastanga, and Marie Greenhalgh, authors of Supporting Bereaved Children in the Primary Classroom
