About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour 45 minutes

Every year we support parents in preparing their children for the move from one school year to the next or to a new school environment. These transitions seem harder following the pandemic that destabilised us all and we know many young people are still struggling.

The changes we all experienced have left many young people unsettled and this workshop will help parents and carers to explore ways in which we can help our young people manage new situations, feel more settled and cope with the many changes that they will experience in the future.

By making change more manageable for their children, parents will be able to support their children to feel safe and settled once again.

We recognise that children will be well into a new school year when you attend this workshop, however you may be starting to think about the next move. We will also address how to manage all change.

Run by highly experienced facilitators, counsellors and parenting practitioners, this online workshop will help parents to understand:

  • How children feel and behave when experiencing change.
  • How to prepare children for changes such as starting a new school.
  • How to support children during and after change by helping them to manage their emotions using effective stress reducing strategies.
  • Understand how children learn from new experiences and what to expect.
  • Where to access further help and support.

The Supporting Links ethos is not simply to impart information by Powerpoint, but to enable parents to learn valuable skills that will help them to support their children. Our emphasis is on helping parents to use new knowledge and strategies within their own families and, thereby, support their anxious child.

Previous attendees have said:

“It just happened that this workshop came along in a week when I had to take my son for a vaccination. This was the 3rd attempt as he was too upset each time before. I used the ideas you shared in your workshop and it helped so much. Thank you (he DID have his jab!)”

Parents and carers who attend will leave understanding what is happening for their child and what they can do about it.

The workshop will take place via Zoom and will incorporate a Q&A session.

This workshop is provided free to parents by Herts County Council and it is open to all parents and carers of children aged 2-25 years old with suspected or diagnosed Autistic Spectrum Disorder and/or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder who are living in Hertfordshire.

Supporting Links is an independent company.
