Talking Climate and Carbon: An Audience with Professor Carly McLachlan

Women in Sustainability (WINS) exists to help women flourish in careers that are building a sustainable world. This event will be an exclusive audience with Prof Carly McLachlan, a leading academic from the internationally renowned Tyndall Centre. The Centre's vision is to provide evidence to inform society’s transition to a sustainable low-carbon and climate resilient future.

Through the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy funded SCATTER (Setting City Area Targets and Trajectories for Emissions Reduction) project, Tyndall Manchester collaborated with Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) and Anthesis Group to develop a climate change strategy for GMCA compatible with the UN Paris Agreement. The carbon budgets set for Greater Manchester (GMCA) are based on Tyndall Manchester’s world leading expertise on carbon budgets and meet GMCA’s goal of setting targets in keeping with GM playing a fair role in meeting the objectives of the Paris Agreement. Work at Tyndall Manchester on the SCATTER project was led by Carly McLachlan, Kevin Anderson, Jaise Kuriakose and John Broderick. Carly spoke at the GM Green Summit in March as part of Tyndall's ongoing engagement to support Greater Manchester in responding to ambitious and challenging carbon targets.

As ever there will be the space and opportunity to network and share experiences with colleagues in the wider sustainability community. There will also be the opportunity for delegates to update the group on news and events.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Joining us as our speaker for this event is:

Professor Carly McLachlan, Director of Tyndall Manchester

Carly's research interests focus on how stakeholders, including publics, engage with energy and sustainability issues. Her previous research projects, completed as part of Tyndall’s interdisciplinary team, have covered a range of topics including: stakeholder engagement with integrated climate change models, stakeholder assessments of carbon capture and storage, mitigation and adaptation scenarios for food supply chains and an assessment of the UK tidal energy policy. Whilst seeking to integrate interdisciplinary insights, Carly’s Science and Technology Studies perspective frames her consideration of the meanings associated with different energy related behaviours and attitudes
