About this event

Arts • Fine Art

Image-making and photography allow for new perspectives and ideas to emerge. It allows for artists and photographers to explore ways of seeing, and to share lived and sensory experiences visually.

These artist talks/conversations will feature the work and ideas of an artist in the development stage of their practice, offering a chance to share and explore their work in depth.

Featured artists:

Beth Hopkins (2.30-4pm Talk)
Beth Hopkins is a Croydon-based artist, researcher, and educator. She works with artists who face barriers to the art world and in artist development. Her own artistic practice is rooted in collaborative research practices, and encompasses analogue photography, drawing, found objects, sculpture, and is rooted in conversation and community.

Peter G. Ball (12.30-2pm Talk)
Peter G. Ball (b 1950, Walthamstow, London) uses photography to explore ways of seeing. His work often includes architecture and performance, and he processes the image as a way to share his lived visual sensory experience of AuDHD (the intersection of Autism & ADHD).

Peter’s photographic process is entirely digital, almost always shot hand-held on a full frame mirrorless camera, usually with autofocus, but otherwise completely manual. Each individual frame is saved with high dynamic range (the difference between the lightest and darkest parts of the image). Editing the raw photographs nothing is added, however information is removed as he pushes and pulls the dynamic range, colour spectrum and perspective.

He has exhibited at: Honeywood Museum, Carshalton (CAOS 2023), Riff Raffs, Croydon (2023) Bethlem Art Fair (2023 & 2024), Velum Mill Gallery, Carshalton (CAOS 2024 & 2025), Bethlem Founders Award Winners 2023 (The Long Gallery, Maudsley Hospital 2025), l’Ecluse 62 à Ouges, near Dijon, France (2024) and Laban Dance Centre, Deptford (2025).

This event is part of Photo Bethlem 2025.
