Description

The next meeting of Talking Social Work, the Tayside and Fife Professional Forum for anyone with an interest in social work, will explore the role of Love in Social Practice. There will be presentations from Professor Mark Smith on 'What's love got to with social work practice' and from Leisa McQuade on 'You can't hurry love - The importance of love in our practice'.

Professor Mark Smith - Mark was a practitioner and manager in residential child care settings foralmost 20 years before entering academia. His first academic post was at the University of Strathclyde, where he set up and taught a Masters programme in residential child care. In 2005, Mark moved to the University of Edinburgh as lecturer, and subsequently, senior lecturer, in social work. He served as head of social work there from 2013 - 2017. Mark joined the University of Dundee as Professor of Social Work in 2017.

Liz Mitchell - Liz has worked for over 20 years with children and young people within the voluntary sector, local authorities and private practice, in England, Scotland and Ireland. She completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology at Queen Margaret’s University Edinburgh, and her MSc in Educational Psychology at the University of Dundee. Liz is passionate about the fundamental importance of love for all children to survive and thrive, and so leading and developing the Love InC project is her dream role!



Writing and Publishing Book Reviews

This Talking Social Work event will be preceded at 3pm by a short practical seminar on how to write a book review. Please let us know if you hope to come along to this as well as the Talking Social Work event.
