About this event

Would you like to find out more about how the brain is developing during the teen years and what you can do to help?

Do you struggle to cope with your teenager’s changing moods?

Is your child approaching the teenage years and you would like to be prepared?

These are challenging questions, and we know that parents are keen to understand how the adolescent brain develops and what they can do to support their children during this time and deal with the tricky behaviour that they might see.

"Talking Teens: from child to adult" is a popular, two and a half hour workshop that addresses these questions for parents and carers of children from Year 7 upwards studying within the Berkhamsted Schools Group.

Parents are encouraged to engage with the material, ask questions and challenge themselves to recognise when situations can be tackled more positively.

A Supporting Links workshop is not a lecture. It is an interactive learning experience. You will NOT be required to take part in any role play!

The session will give you an understanding of why young people behave the way that they do and what you can do about it with practical ways of improving communication, encouraging independence and reducing conflict.

Through the use of group discussion, individual/group activities and written materials you will learn about:

  • The Teen Brain: Understanding why teenagers take risks and want to experiment
  • Recognising the physical and emotional changes that are happening for our children during the teenage years and why their behaviour changes.
  • The link between behaviour and communicating difficult feelings
  • Why arguments escalate and how to stop this happening
  • How to negotiate during a conflict situation

Parents will leave with the skills to apply this understanding within their families.

Previous attendees have said:

“Excellent teen brain explanation. Very well delivered and engaging session”

“Good tips on how to cope and manage the teenage years – well done!”

"I have already changed my attitude towards my 12 turning 13 year old daughter by accepting her behaviour rather than being annoyed (often really annoyed!) by it and the results have been quite remarkable."

The workshop will take place in the Careers Library in the Sixth Form Centre on Castle Campus and will begin promptly at 7pm. There are a limited number of places which will be offered on a first come first served basis.

Please note that payment is due on completion of this registration and is non refundable regardless of attendance. Admittance will only be given to those on our attendance list. Please contact us if you are no longer able to attend.

We offer a limited number of subsidised places for parents/carers in receipt of Universal Credit. Please contact us for details.

We will be holding a waiting list and will offer places as and when they become available.

If you have any questions then please contact Noushin Rahman-Blake, Supporting Links on 01442 300185 or email info@supportinglinks.co.uk.
