Talking to Anyone: UAL’s Chancellor Grayson Perry gives new talk on exploring society through the documentary lens

In the first of a series of engaging lectures for staff and students, UAL Chancellor Grayson Perry will be sharing his insight into documentary-making as way to explore the hopes, fears, divisions and challenges of our society.

The talk will take place at London College of Communication on Wednesday 19 February.

Renowned for its media and journalism course, and home to its very own Screen School, LCC will provide the perfect backdrop for Grayson to reflect on his award-winning documentary work which raises key questions about how to explore different views at a time when people are more polarised and within their own bubbles.

Still best-known for his artwork - for which he was awarded the Turner Prize in 2003 and awarded a CBE in 2014 - Grayson has more recently become renowned for writing and presenting a number of ground-breaking documentaries delving into a diverse range of societal issues and themes.

For his Channel 4 documentary Why Men Wear Frocks, in which he examined transvestism and masculinity in the 21st century, he received a Royal Television Society award for Best Network Production. And his 2012 series All in the Best Possible Taste with Grayson Perry received a BAFTA for Specialist Factional Television. Grayson also went onto win a Grierson Award for Documentary Presenter of the Year.

His most recent BAFTA-nominated 2019 documentary Grayson Perry: Rites of Passage explored the landmark events in all of our lives – birth, coming of age, marriage and death – and how to reinvent them for our modern, secular age.

Grayson will be introduced by Pratāp Rughani, Associate Dean of Research and Professor of Documentary Practices, who himself is also an award-winning documentary filmmaker as well as the author of the MA Documentary Film course at LCC.
