Event description

Description

NHS in crisis, unaffordable housing, zero hour contracts, filthy streets - signs of a crisis in the way Britain is run? Britain’s a wealthy country but many people feel they don’t share in it, that the odds are stacked against ordinary people. Will Brexit – 70% voted leave here – bring greater control, more power to the people? The aim of this event is to see whether we can reach some measure of agreement about how well the country and the economy is run and what can be done to improve matters.

We’ll be using the tried and tested Talk Shop discussion format. The starting point is that everyone feels able to express their view and confident that they will be listened to. Instead of sterile for and against arguments that leave everybody feeling angry and frustrated, the aim is to understand each other’s point of view and to find common ground as the basis for shared solutions. Of course, that may not be possible and we may just have to agree to disagree. For most of the time, we will be working in small groups, reporting our conclusions back to the group as a whole. The job of the Talk Shop facilitators is to make sure that everyone is heard with respect and that we find some answers to the question: How should Britain be run?
