Event description

Description

Do you have a telescope that you don't really know how to use? Or would you simply like to get more out of the equipment you have? Join us at Killhope Lead Mine, one of the darkest locations in the North East, and learn to 'Tame Your Telescope'.

The Moon will be up during the workshop, but will only just be reaching 50% fullness. That's good for two reasons. First of all, there's plenty of shadow on the Moon's surface so you'll be able to see plenty of craters amd other detail. Secondly, it won't overpower the sky, so there'll be plenty of stars and other objects for us to look at.

All telescopes and mounts are welcome. Once you've registered, please message me (use the 'Contact' link below) to let me know what you're going to be bringing with you.

In the case of extreme weather being forecast, such as heavy rain, snow, fog, or winds, you will be able to transfer to a comparable event the following month, free of charge. I'll make an email announcement about this, either way, a couple of nights before the workshop.

Numbers are restricted to 16 people (everyone present must have a ticket), and there will be two of us training, so you'll get plenty of support. I'm an experienced astrophotographer and the Chair of the North Pennines Astronomy Society. Working with me will be Andy Gray, a teacher and science education consultant, as well as being an experienced astronomer and deep sky astrophotographer.

The workshop is suitable for all experience levels. Your booking is non-refundable if you're unable to come (but it may possible to transfer it to someone else, upon request).

If you have a registered disability and need a carer to accompany you, or are under the age of 18 (or booking for a person under 18), please contact me first so we can discuss special arrangements.

Joining instructions will be sent to everyone around two days before the event. This gives me time to take account of any special factors, such as weather for outdoor courses.

It's time to finally learn what that equipment you have can do, and to enjoy the rewarding hobby of astronomy.
