TAONB BREAKFAST TALK SERIES ON MODERN WAYS TO GROW AN AGENCY

"Differentiate or Die" Powered by PechaKucha

How four "new model" agencies are standing out from the crowd

We have invited four agency heads to share with us the secrets of their success. However, we have set them a challenge. Can they do it in just 20 slides, with only 20 seconds per slide?

"Powered by PechaKucha" events are one-off events that are separate from regular city-based PechaKucha Nights, and that are usually held as part of festivals and conferences, but can also act as standalone events. These events include presentations that use the PechaKucha 20 images x 20 seconds format.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

Dan Cullen-Shute, CEO, Creature

Dan Cullen-Shute is CEO and one of the founders of advertising agency and creative company, Creature. He's also one of the 'foundeurs' of Le Cure, a charitable club established in 2014 to raise money for cancer research at the Royal Marsden Hospital, which has so far raised over £1m, and established three research fellowships and counting. He's also irredeemably, unashamedly, and unapologetically Welsh.

Creature is an advertising agency that likes to dabble in other creative worlds - in the 6 years it's been around, that's meant everything from massive, award-winning TV campaigns for brands like Carling, adidas, Tetley, and the Green Party to Olivier-nominated pieces of immersive theatre, via your standard mix of outdoor campaigns, mobile apps, and experiential dance campaigns for sushi.

George Prest, Founder, Blood

George Prest is a creative, strategic and investment practitioner specialising in the application of technology to marketing.

He is a former Executive Creative Director of the world's best digital agency R/GA and prior to that served as Executive Creative Director of top-five advertising agency, Lowe.

George is partner and Co-Head of Brand Strategy and Creative at You & Mr Jones, the world's first global brandtech group. He is also the founder of Blood, a brandtech practice that delivers upstream creative and strategic products to global clients.

George has served on the board of trustees of D&AD, the world's foremost creative charity and regularly speaks at marketing events around the world.

James Hillhouse, CEO, Commercial Break

James Hillhouse is CEO of youth transformation agency, Commercial Break. In addition to this, he works as a strategist and consultant within the comms industry. Over the past 20 years he'd worked on some of the most exciting brands in the world, including Apple, Burberry, and Channel 4, but Commercial Break tops them all.

Commercial Break is a youth transformation agency, with a 5-year track record of getting young people from lower income backgrounds jobs in the creative industries. It does this by creating pop-up agencies delivering work for big-name brands struggling to connect with youth audiences. Over the past 5 years, it's worked with the likes of Beats, Ubisoft, and EE, creating, amongst other things, the Paving the Way award for the MOBOs and Comic Relief’s youth strategy. Former Commercial Breakers are now permanently employed at agencies like Adam & Eve, Mr. President, and ITV.

Simon Dent, Founding Partner & Managing Director, Dark Horses

After starting his professional life as a lawyer, Simon quickly realised he had more to offer the world and made the transition to that of a sports agent. Over the following decade, he represented Premiership footballers, Olympic gold medallists, Rugby World Cup winners and even a Hollywood movie star. In 2013, Simon switched to marketing to help launch BBH Sport and work on slightly more traditional brands. Then in the spring of 2016 he co-founded Dark Horses with Danny Brooke Taylor, Andy Nairn and Helen Calcraft.

In a set-up unique from the rest of the sport marketing world, Dark Horses is co-owned by Lucky Generals, and built with the same creative DNA to deliver great work for brave brands looking to emerge from the pack and walk away with the trophy. We are Dark Horses and we believe as soon as you see yourself as the favourite, you've lost the race.
