Description

A full days workshop at the Create Place, St. Margaret's House Focussed on contemporary approaches to weaving. You will learn how to prepare the warp for a loom and gain an understanding of different weaving techniques such as plain weave, rya knotting, looping and pattern making. A diverse, exciting and surprising range of tools and materials such as yarn, plastics, and un-spun wool will be provided. Textile Artist and Artist Educator Áine Byrne will lead you through the design process of preparing and weaving on the frame loom.

Áine Byrne is a practicing Textile artist, designer and graduate of the Royal College of Art. Áine has completed a wide range of residencies and exhibitions both nationally and internationally with a focus on bringing traditional approaches to weave into the contemporary age through the use of sustainable materials, vibrant colour ways and modernist patterns. In addition to her work as a textile designer Aine is a part time lecturer in Fashion and Textiles. Áine is experienced at leading workshops in a range of settings including the Fitzwilliam Museum, Somerset House and her studio in Space, Coal Drops Yard and Hackney Wick.

The workshop is open to a maximum of 10 participants (age 16+) on a first come, first served basis.
