Description

The Taste of France course will introduce you to the charms and tastes of the Perigord Dordogne region. A region which is famous for strawberries, truffles, foie gras, walnuts and of course, delicious wines from both the Bordeaux and Bergerac regions.

The Taste of France course will provide you with amazing experiences during a week of feasting, cooking and discovering the foodie life in the beautiful Perigord region. Amongst other things, we will be visiting wine producers creating the most delicious wine, local cheese makers and artisan oil, producers, and visit markets to bring home fantastic local produce whch we will turn into the feasts with Louis from Woodbine & Co.

The Programme:

Saturday: arrive at Bordeaux airport by 20.00 where our executive transport will drive you to Chadenne for welcome fizz and delicious canapes - a time to get to know your fellow guests

Sunday: A walk in the Foret de La Double for those who will, followed by a delicious relaxing brunch on one of the terraces at Rural Gites. Later in the day we will take a river trip in the L'Isle on a traditional gabarre at the Moulin de Duellas which was used to transport wine and foodstuffs for a thousand years. Back for dinner preparation and a swim, our Grand Nez competition, followed by dinner cooked on the Morso Forno wood fired oven and the opportunity to taste delicious wines of the region.

Monday: Delicious breakfast in Gite Sanglier. Today we're heading to the Peyssac region, one of the secrets of the Bordeaux wine region. We will visit Chateau Carbonneau for a vineyard tour and tasting expertly conducted by Jacquie and Wilfrid Franc de Ferriere. Tasting of their delicious wines will follow and then we will lunch in the beautiful orangerie at the chateau. Back to Chadenne for relaxing swim and dinner prepared by Louis and his team, accompanied by delicious wines from Chateau Carbonneau.

Tuesday: Breakfast and swimming for those who wouold like to. Today we will be visiting the artisan oil producers Christine and her family. They have been producing walnut and hazelbut oils using the same methods for hundreds of years. Rick Stein is a recent convert and was cooking with Christine in 2018. After a picnic lunch we will make our way to Duras to walk in the woods with Stephanie and her Pyrenean mountain goats. We will be able to see Stephanie make her delicious cheeses and bring some back to Chadenne for supper. Louis will prepare supper using the delicious oils and cheeses produced today!

Wednesday: Today is a quieter day although an early morning walk is on offer - relaxation is encouraged. Breakfast on a terrace will be followed by a trip to the local Montpon market for those who would like to go. Louis and his team will work with you to create lunch on the Morso Forno wood fired oven. He will be hosting a vinaigrette masterclass and you will work with him to prepare the salads and to bake some bread using some of the many items we will have seen, tasted and purchased during the week. We will have a lovely long lunch on the warm terrace. In the evening we will have an open air cinema.

Thursday: After breakfast we will make our way to Saussignac to visit Caro and Sean Feely at Chateau Feely. They will take us on a tour of their biodynamic organic vineyard and recount the story of their beautiful vineyard and wines. You will be guided through an expert tasting experience with the gifted Caro Feely. Louis will prepare the lunch under the trees on the Morso Forn oven. We will lunch in the natural amphitheatre at Chateau Feely overlooking the Bergerac valley and under the shadow of Chateau Saussignac. After lunch and the opportunity to sample the Feely wines wiuth your lunch, we will make a short journey to the village of Saussignac to see the chateau. Back to Chadenne for dinner and a fun foodie quiz night.

Friday: After breakfast then head to to Aubeterre sur Dronne to visit the third river which make this region so famous. We will visit the stunning underground monolithic church and walk through the beautiful village. For those who fancy it there will be tea and cakes at the end and a little retail therapy at a fabulous wood fired pottery. Friday night will see us dining with our friends at La Clairiere to sample some delicious local fare cooked by Deborah and her team.

Saturday: After breakfast sharing stories and details to keep in touch, the journey back to Bordeaux airport will see you have a short diversion to visit St Emilion, after which it will be time for flights back home.
