Masterclass Demonstration

The City of Glasgow College is delighted to announce an exclusive Masterclass demonstration with multi award winning MasterChef: The Professionals Champion 2016, Gary Maclean.

The evening will commence with a glass of sparkling Prosecco and Canapes, which won the Royal Canape Competition at Buckingham Palace, followed by an introduction from Gary himself.

Guests will then be treated to a demonstration of how to source, prepare and cook some of the finest Scottish Food available on the high street. Audience participation throughout the evening is expected and guests will have the opportunity to get pictured with Gary and take away recipe cards for the dishes demonstrated on the evening.

The Masterchef 2016 Professionals Champion said “Hosting this exclusive event in the college lecture theatre is an honour for me and will allow guests to ask me anything as I prepare and cook for the assembled audience.”

This is an exclusive event with limited places.

ABOUT GARY MACLEAN

Born in Glasgow, 45-year-old multi-award winning Gary Maclean spent his early career working in hotels where he learned a number of key skills. By the age of 24, he was running the kitchens at Glasgow’s Gallery of Modern Art and the Burrell Collection and scooped his first foray into fine dining as Executive Chef in a top Glasgow restaurant at 25.

He has been a strategic restaurant consultant helping to launch over 80 establishments across Scotland working for a variety of high profile brands.

Gary has also held executive chef positions at two of Scotland’s biggest independent operators and his current role as Senior Lecturer at City of Glasgow College is what really drives his passion for mentoring other young chefs and creative cooking.

In December 2016 he was crowned MasterChef: The Professionals Champion 2016, after taking on 47 other professional chefs in the pursuit of gastronomic glory. He battled through seven weeks of fierce competition on our TV screens and extraordinary cooking in the culinary challenges. There was only one king of the kitchen and he touched the hearts and passions of the UK TV audience.

WHAT THE JUDGES SAID

  • Monica Galetti MasterChef judge said: “Gary has been such a pleasure to watch rediscover himself as a chef. He’s a chef who always cooks from the heart and you can feel the emotion that goes into his cookery."

  • Marcus Wareing spoke about the 2016 champion: “Gary has soaked up every little bit of this competition. He’s lived the MasterChef dream. He’s a major talent, he’s grown incredibly well, and he’s a gentleman of the kitchen…For a chef lecturer to step into a three-Michelin-star kitchen and feel so at home is quite unique…Marcus Wareing commented that Gary’s starter “could come from any three Michelin-starred restaurants in Europe.”

He added: “It’s the best razor clam dish I’ve ever eaten.”

  • Gregg Wallace remarked: “That man has forged his own style of cookery while he’s been here on MasterChef. It’s modern, it’s of the moment and I think it’s fantastic.”
