Taste of the Cape at the Thatched House: Pop-Up with Chef Grant Hawthorne
Monday, 25 February 2013 from 19:00 to 23:00 (GMT)
London, United Kingdom
Join Chef Grant Hawthorne at the Thatched House in Hammersmith as he cooks a fabulous eight-course, South African-inspired tasting menu.
If you’ve never been to Cape Town, perhaps this meal will give you a brief glimpse as to what you can find down there. It's rare to come across South African cuisine even in London, so this really will be a unique experience.
Generally speaking, The Cape offers a “yin and yang” – sweet and savoury – to complement and enhance most dishes. The influences from the Cape Malay to the French Huguenots; Dutch classics to the British. All form a part of the culinary landscape of The Cape and it comes as no surprise that it is the leading region for food in South Africa.
Grant was born, raised and trained as a chef in Cape Town before moving to Britain 13 years ago. To learn more about what he does, have a look here: http://www.food-e-matters.com/granthawthorne/
