Event description

Description

Experience what it’s like to be a student in our MA in Contemporary Art through an interactive session with Dr Juliet Hacking, Senior Lecturer in Photography at Sotheby’s Institute of Art London campus.

Join Dr Hacking for a lecture on contemporary photography to be delivered at the Institute, followed by a study visit to a world-class contemporary art gallery in London. Get a taste of what you will learn during the MA programme, develop skills of observation and description and explore how themes are connected with artistic contexts and the networks in which art is created, bought, collected and exhibited.

Dr Hacking holds a PhD, MA and BA (Hons) from Courtauld Institute of Art, London. She began her academic career as a Visiting Lecturer at the Universities of Derby and Reading, and at the Courtauld Institute. In 1999 she took on a year-long research post at the National Portrait Gallery, London, where she also curated the exhibition and wrote the book 'Princes of Victorian Bohemia: Photographs by David Wilkie Wynfield'. From 2000 to 2006 Hacking was a specialist in the Photographs Department at Sotheby’s auction house in London; in 2003 becoming Head of the department. She joined Sotheby's Institute of Art, London, in 2006, and was the Programme Director of the MA in Photography for 10 years. Now a tutor on the MA in Contemporary Art, she is author of 'Lives of the Great Photographers' and general editor of 'Photography: The Whole Story'. Juliet is writing 'Art Photography & The Market' for Lund Humphries.
