Description

As a professional, self-employed musician, keeping yourself right in terms of accounting and tax is an essential part of your work however it can be a daunting experience and a minefield of potential pitfalls.

The MU will be hosting a special seminar on Tax and Accounting presented to you by Tim Alter. Tim is the founder of Alterledger and was a former freelance violinist and member of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales before he retrained as an accountant.

Tim’s specialist knowledge and experience enables you to get on with sorting out your own accounts and reducing your tax by organising and claiming the expenses you are entitled to.

This seminar will cover key areas such as:-

• Setting yourself up as a business
• Money in and money out, and getting paid
• Keeping up-to-date records
• Allowable expenses
• How to deal with large items of expenditure
• VAT
• How to deal with tax investigations and how the MU can help with this
• Employment status issues

After the seminar there will be a Q&A session, followed by a networking lunch and a chance to speak to Tim and the Musicians’ Union.

*This workshop is exclusively for MU members and is free to attend*.
