Paul Mason
National Account Manager, Abbey Tax
Paul joined Abbey Tax in 1997 and now works with both Accountax and Abbey Tax divisions. He previously worked in general practice before moving into the insurance and consultancy arena.

Paul has been involved with IR35 since 2001, initially on the insurance side before providing advice on the subject to contractors. He regularly speaks on IR35 and works closely with Abbey Tax investigations specialists in a team whose role is to ensure freelancers get the best defence in an IR35 enquiry.

James Cordiner
Senior Tax Consultant, Abbey Tax
James is an ex-inspector of taxes from the North East of Scotland, having joined Abbey Tax as a Senior Tax Consultant in January 2005, after a 17 year career with HMRC.

Since joining Abbey Tax, James has applied his extensive experience of handling enquiries to provide a comprehensive service to a wide variety of clients from a diverse selection of trades and professions, as well as supporting our accountancy practices. James also has extensive knowledge of HMRC’s Alternative Dispute Resolution process having been involved since its inception as a pilot scheme. He continues to deal with disclosure reports on behalf of ex-Christopher Lunn & Co clients and has the knowledge and experience to get the best possible outcome in these cases.


James Clark
R&D Tax Consultant, Abbey Tax
James came to Abbey Tax in 2014 and has a strong tax background having previously worked as a Tax Inspector with HMRC working in the Large Business Sector. He was also part of the case management team on several FTSE100 companies specialising in mineral extraction and food manufacturing / processing.

More recently James worked with two of the top ten accountancy firms and put his HMRC knowledge to good
use when he took up the role of defending clients who were subject to the most serious civil investigations. During his time in private practice James has achieved the Prince2 project management qualification as well as membership of the Association of Tax Technicians and is also part way through his studies for the Chartered Tax Adviser qualification.
