The Thomas Castle Aviation Heritage Scholarship (TCAHS) is pleased to confirm that it is to host a night photoshoot at its Sywell, Northamptonshire base on Saturday, October 19, 2024.

The following aircraft are set to be present as part of the event:

  • A de Havilland DH.82 Tiger Moth from the TCAH fleet
  • Bücker Bü 131 Jungmann G-RETA
  • Miles Magister G-AKIN
  • SIAI Marchetti F.260 G-RAZI
  • Waco YMF N45BN

Further aircraft will be announced on this website and on social media once we receive confirmation of their attendance. As always, we anticipate that Air Leasing will kindly provide an aircraft from their stable. However we have yet to receive confirmation of which aircraft this is and whether it will ground run during the photocall. The participation of any and all aircraft is subject to serviceability and weather and cannot be guaranteed.

Please see our website for more information about this and other events, as well as our terms and conditions and event FAQs.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Thomas Castle Aviation Heritage Scholarship (TCAHS)?

Following the loss of his son, Thomas, in 2019, Ian Castle placed Thomas' de Havilland Tiger Moth in trust to provide flying scholarships to allow young pilots greater opportunities within vintage aviation. All proceeds from these events enable TCAHS to continue awarding scholarships.

Why is this event over 18s only?

Airfields are extremely hazardous areas, especially for those who are unfamiliar with them. We have done our utmost to ensure the event is as safe as possible, but need to ensure attendees are aware of potential hazards and will respond accordingly to any and all instructions from event staff.

I’ve never done this before. What should I bring?

Put a big coat and some good strong shoes on and bring a torch - it'll get dark. We recommend hearing protection as there is a strong chance that aircraft will run engines. As well as your camera, you'll want a tripod to put it on, and if you've got a shutter release cable, bring that too.

What lights do you use?

We use Nightsearcher portable LED floodlights which produce a bright white light which means there is no need for you to adjust your camera’s white balance. Please be mindful that, at the start of the event, the lights may not be as bright as you might like - give it time.

What happens during the event?

Once everyone has arrived and tickets have been checked, the event organiser will give everyone a briefing - this will include timings for any aircraft due to run its engine, safety information and whether food and drink is available. After that, you're free to take pictures!
