The Details

Join us for a day of balsam bashing and become a Citizen Forester with City of Trees!

We’ll be heading down to Urmston Meadows to manage and remove Himalayan Balsam, an invasive species. This species overcrowds our native woodlands, so we’ll be spending the day pulling balsam.

All tools will be provided; please wear suitable clothing for outdoor work and sturdy footwear – you may want long sleeves/trousers for working among the long vegetation! Drop in for an hour or stay the whole day – you will be guided throughout the day so no prior experience is necessary. This activity is suitable for all.

We provide all the tools and materials you’ll need, including gloves. There will be a briefing at the start of the day, so you don’t need to prepare anything in advance.

Will we stop for lunch?

Yes! If you are staying all day, please bring along your lunch for our break halfway through the day. We will provide tea, coffee, water and biscuits to keep you going through the day!

What happens if it rains?

We usually go ahead whatever the weather, we would only reschedule in extreme circumstances. If it’s really bad we will make a judgement call the day before or on the day of the event.
