First TDAG Seminar of 2022 featuring Kathy Wolf ( Uni of Washington & US Forest Service) and Julia Thrift (TCPA, UK)
About this event
How can we make the connection between urban and peri-urban green space, human health, & climate change ? This seminar will explore these issues, specifically:
• With Kathy Wolf: How can we optimise the climate and human health outcomes of urban forestry to provide professionals who are working at the intersection of climate, public health and urban forestry with resources to support climate adaptation planning and activities?
Dr. Kathleen Wolf is a Research Social Scientist at the College of the Environment, University of Washington, and is affiliated with the U.S. Forest Service, Pacific Northwest Research Station. Dr. Wolf’s research explores the human dimensions of urban ecosystems, and her mission is to discover, understand and communicate human behavior and benefits, as people experience nature in cities and towns. Moreover, Dr. Wolf is interested in how scientific information can be integrated into local government policy and planning.
• With Julia Thrift: Is it time to radically rethink the purpose of England’s green belts to improve their accessibility, quality and benefits to people, the environment and the economy?
Julia Thrift is Director of Healthier Place-making at the TCPA (Town & Country Planning Association) where she works to facilitate cross-disciplinary collaboration to create well-designed places, spaces and buildings that make it easier for people to live healthier lives. She is a trustee at Trees for Cities, a charity that works with communities to improve lives by planting trees. Earlier in her career she was a Director at the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE). Formerly a journalist, she has a degree in philosophy from UCL.
The seminar is open to all - please share the link with all those who maybe be interested. We look forward to seeing you there!
