Event description

Description

Teach First LogoOn Thursday 8 March our annual North East celebratory event will take place at Shotton Hall, SR8 2PH. We would be delighted if you could join us for an evening of fizz, canapes, speakers and awards.

We are thrilled to be joined by the following speakers.

Russell Hobby, Teach First

Russell became Teach First's Chief Executive Officer in 2017. As former General Secretary of the NAHT, Russell joined us with a deep understanding of the challenges in our schools today. In his new role, he regularly sees the dedication and passion of our partner schools despite this adverstiy. Russell is dedicated to ensuring that every child gets access to a world-class education and will talk to us about Teach First's wider vision over the next few years.

Thomas Martell, Education Endowment Foundation

The EEF is an education charity that, like Teach First, is dedicated to breaking the link between family income and educational achievement. The charity believes the best way to break this link is through better use of evidence: by making grants to fund high potential projects; publishing independent, rigorous evaluation of what works; and supporting teachers by supporting best practice through clear, actionable guidance to bring evidence to life. Tom heads up the EEF's Primary Literacy Campaign in the North East and has previously worked in secondary schools as a teaching assistant, science teacher and Head of Science. Tom will be speaking on recent work of the EEF in the region.

An awards ceremony will recognise and thank those who work tirelessly to improve the lives of children and young people in the North East. Schools who have worked with us for five years as at September 2017 will rececive a Drive for Five Award. We will also be awarding participants, ambassadors, mentors, SLT and/or university colleagues who demonstrate the Teach First Values of Excellence, Leadership, Commitment, Collaboration and Integrity.

We hope you can join us for what promises to be an uplifting and celebratory evening.
